First off, I would like to congratulate Bob, Martha and Joyce on their victories. Last night I was scrutineering and pulling votes at the John Innes Community Center (Shuter St. and Sherbourne), in the heart of the Toronto Centre riding. An interesting note was that the Conservatives brought in some out-of-riding help to the polling station. The almighty Lois Brown (she ran against Belinda Stronach in 2006 in Newmarket-Aurora) along with her poshly-dressed posse made a grand and pretencious entrance into the community center. Being one of the lowest income areas of the riding, they looked extremely out of place.
On that note I would like to congratulate Chris Tindal of the Green Party for an extremely strong showing placing only 36 votes behind NDP's El-Farouk Khaki for second.
Bob Rae (L) - 14,187 (59.2%)
El Farouk Khaki (NDP) - 3,299 (13.8%)
Chris Tindal (Greens) - 3,263 (13.6%)
Don Meredith (Cons) - 2,982 (12.5%)
(Elections Canada)
This should be a big concern for the NDP in the next election as I am sure the Greens took a big chunk of their usual voter base last night. Conservative Don Meredith placing a sad fourth (along with Martha's blowout in Willowdale) is a troubling sign for the Tories as they are continually being completely shut out of Toronto (and other urban centres). I guess the extremely vile Jim Flaherty can continue to mouth off and bash Ontario since they really have nothing to lose.

It may surprise you to know that 90% of the 308 ridings in Canada are outside of Toronto. And in most of those places, it is the Liberals, not the Tories, that are way out of step and losing ground fast.
I am not sure if you are aware how arrogant it comes across when Torontonians lecture the rest of us on how we should be voting. Did it occur to you that maybe it’s Toronto that’s at odds with the rest of Canada, not the other way around?
Finally, you have some nerve suggesting the Tories are “shut out” of “urban centres”. I guess to someone like yourself from worldly Toronto, places like Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Ottawa, London, Kitchener, St.Catharines, Barrie, Ottawa, Quebec City, Halifax and St. John’s are just backwater rural areas full of bigots and rednecks who aren’t enlightened enough to see they should blindly vote Liberal no matter what. I can’t think of any other reason you’d consider these places not to be “urban centres”.
As they say, you're entitled to your own opinions, but you're not entitled to your own facts.
"Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Ottawa, London, Kitchener, St.Catharines, Barrie, Ottawa, Quebec City, Halifax and St. John’s are just backwater rural areas full of bigots and rednecks"
agreed -
now what was your point?
