Republican John McCain has chosen Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running-mate. This move, I am sure, has taken the media by surprise by passing over the highly speculated Tim Pawlenty, Mitt Romney, and Joe Lieberman.
This is a very interesting choice. Relatively unknown outside of ther state of Alaska, it should be very interesting to see how Palin fares in the national spotlight. As the underdog in the 2006 Alaska gubernatorial election and as a relatively young Washington outsider with a relatively clean decisive record so far as governor, Palin will definitely help McCain's bid for the Whitehouse. Not only does Palin have the youthful 'glow' of a beauty queen (youth and glow is something that is BADLY needed in the McCain campaign), but she has something that neither McCain, Obama, nor Biden have... and that's executive experience. Could this be also a ploy to woo the Hillary 'Nobama' dissidents? By picking a female, McCain has made history by appointing the first female to run on a Republican ticket.
However, Sarah Palin is no Joe Biden. Joe Biden has been a figure in US national politics for over 3 decades with amazing orating-ability.
But regardless of who wins the November election, both parties will have broken various glass ceilings. This is a very promising sign for CHANGE from the old and tired ways of Washington.
