harper ploy to frame ignatieff makes headlines on UK papers
Harper's embarrassing and blatantly obvious ploy to frame and blame Ignatieff for the failed UN vote has made it alllll the way across the Atlantic to the UK Guardian. Harper is truly an international embarrassment beyond riches. Who's gonna get the PMO axe for being ineffective puppets? Cannon? Dmitri Soudas?

I'm still scratching my head over this. The Cons were confident actually saying they were going to win it before the voting. The same day Flaherty gives his economic update (not in parliament) with the message - fragile economy, number one priority, nothing new there.
It's as if they knew something, but not that they would win a seat, but that they would not. I feel something is wrong here, I feel played. Anyone else?
Your own headline is a bit of a stretch saying this issue is making "headlines in the UK papers". This is nothing but a small opinion piece and the author's bio says "Colin Horgan is a Vancouver-based freelance writer. His work has appeared in the Calgary Herald, Maclean's, and the Globe and Mail." Strictly home generated, I'm afraid...
@Anon 11.48am: I had not expected Canada to win because of Harper's foreign policies (unconditional support for Israel, disdain for UN until when he decided he would like to win the seat, etc). We have many diplomats in Ottawa who read the papers and watch what is happening and have duly informed their governments of the "new" Canada.
I am of the opinion that Harper/Cannon knew they would lose. The public evidence for this was the almost empty audience when Harper spoke. Privately, they must have been told by some diplomats, or should have gotten the suspicion, that Canada might not get sufficient support.
Today, we heard the claim that Canada had 135 "written" and 15"verbal" support. Well, let the public see them and let us make up our minds if these were true or made up.
Remember the thousands of complaints that Bernier had received in regard to the long census? Well, we know where that one went once the public started to demand he show proof, right?
Meanwhile you ignore the fact that Iggy, the leader of the official opposition, said that Canada did not deserve a seat.
That's the point!
